March Spoon Making Workshop

  • Go Wild HQ Brockweir NP16 7NQ (map)

One day workshop - £55 - adults only

Lead by Go Wild Director and whittling wizard, Jackie Roby, this one-day course will teach you the skills to select, spilt and saw a tree branch to create a ‘blank’, the block of wood from which you will whittle your spoon.

Throughout the day you will learn whittling techniques as well as tips and tricks of how to design and create your very own spoon.

By the end of the day you will be a dab hand at using a pruning saw, bill hook, whittling knife and hook knife and you will have your very own spoon to take home with you.

We will provide a light lunch, tea, coffee and other refreshments during the day to keep you fuelled but feel free to bring your own snacks too if you have a big appetite.

The course will take place at The Snug at Go Wild HQ in Brockweir, NP16 7NQ

Disclaimer: Spoon whittling is a highly addictive activity and Go Wild Education will not be held accountable for attendees of the spoon making course going home and obsessively whittling unattended chair or table legs or leaving piles of wood shavings under the kitchen table.

How proud am I of my first little cheery hand made spoon?! Such a brilliant workshop with Jackie, safely guiding us through a range of techniques passed down from master spoonmakers. All in her beautiful riverside dwelling. And tea on tap throughout! Thank you.

Who knew whittling was so addictive? The workshop was absolutely brilliant and I loved the way Jackie took us through the process step by step - literally from taking the tree down to sanding and polishing the finished product. It’s given me the confidence to know I can have fun doing on my own from start to finish. I enjoyed it so much I’ve invested in some tools to give it a go on rainy afternoons in front of the fire! Jackie is a great instructor who takes safety seriously but isn’t afraid to have lot of fun. Highly recommend if you’re looking for an awesome way to spend a day!

Took part in a recent spoon whittling event, am now completely in love with my beautiful, wonky, perfect spoon. Many thanks to the brilliant Jackie for hosting such a lovely day (in an equally lovely setting) and for her clear and easy to follow guidance which facilitated the magical birth of my little spoony baby!
